Our Policies

As of 8/01/2023

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

You must be at least 21 years of age to order or receive alcoholic beverages from Downstream Wines. Receipt of shipments containing alcoholic beverages require the signature of a sober adult (a person 21 years of age or older who is not intoxicated). Wines purchased from Downstream Wines are not for resale, and are for personal consumption only.

CREDIT CARD CHARGES

Payments are processed at the time of online purchase. Annual shipments are typically processed one week after the release letter. The wines are sold as “futures”; payment is received at the time of ordering and shipped at a later date when temperatures are cool enough to ship wine.

ANNUAL SHIPMENTS

Purchasing members of our list automatically receive a box set of Downstream wine each year, typically in fall. Members can skip one shipment by contacting sales@downstreamwines.com directly. If a member doesn’t purchase the following year, they will no longer receive automatic allocations.

STATES AUTHORIZED FOR DIRECT SHIPMENT

Currently, we ship directly to all states except for: Kentucky, Mississippi, and Utah.

If Downstream Wines is unable to ship directly to your state, please find a relative, friend or wine storage facility within a state we are allowed to ship to and use their address as your delivery address.

SHIPPING

We use several carriers. In most instances, UPS is the first option. We offer Ground, 2 Day Air, 3 Day Air. The customer may specify a different carrier or shipping method in the Annual Shipment details in their Account. Please add any specific instructions in Notes section of the order form.

A person over the age of 21 years old is required to sign for the delivery because the package contains alcohol.

If a customer needs to manage their delivery after their order has been packed (1 week before the scheduled ship date) or has already shipped, we recommend emailing delivery requests directly to Downstream at: sales@downstreamwines.com

We want the delivery process to be as smooth as possible for our customers. In many cases carriers are not legally allowed to accept delivery change requests from recipients because the package contains alcohol.

We are not able to accommodate pick-ups.

WINE IS A DELICATE COMMODITY

Wine is a perishable commodity. Wine does not like extremes of temperature: hot humid summer and cold winter weather may adversely affect the condition of your wine during shipment. Downstream Wines chooses shipping dates very carefully. We review the forecast shortly before orders are scheduled to ship. If the forecast is above 85 degrees, or below 15 degrees, we may delay shipments.

STORAGE

Wine is delicate so we recommend storing in an area that never exceeds 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

RETURNS AND CANCELLATIONS

We will replace any bottle of wine that is damaged, flawed or found unsatisfactory. By law, we cannot accept returns of alcoholic beverages unless the product is corked, or flawed. Please send an email to sales@downstreamwines.com to arrange for the replacement of a corked or flawed product.

A customer may request a cancellation and full refund of their order anytime before the wine is shipped by emailing sales@downstreamwines.com.

To avoid returned orders please contact us, sales@downstreamwines.com, and request that the order be re-routed to an address where someone can sign for the delivery or request to have it held for pick up within 5 business days at the carrier facility near you.

It is the customer’s responsibility to be present in order to accept and sign for the delivery of their wine. If we need to re-ship an order due to failed delivery attempts we may charge the customer $15 for the return fee in addition to the cost of re-shipping the order.
